The bar clamp is used on a bookbinding machine to hold a sheaf of paper firmly. It comprises two U-shaped rack uprights (10), one fixed each side of the table, these uprights having inclined slots (9) along their lengths. A square bar (1) fits between the uprights, this having a slider (2) in each end interconnected to a central coil spring (3). A pin (8) on each slider engages the slots and the sliders are tightened by a screw and wheel (6) each side. This pulls the bar down onto the paper to increase the holding pressure.
