Electric welding of aluminium tubes - is performed by capacitor discharge and uses intermediate joining piece with small button-like projection

The welding of aluminium tubes to make ladders or tubular furniture is facilitated by using an intermediate joining piece (3). The joining piece (3) consists of a short length of tube with one end closed and formed into a small button (4). This joining piece (3) is electrically welded, by using a very large current discharged from a condenser, which fuses the button (4) to the wall of the tube (1). A second tube is then slid over the joining piece (3) and welded to it to form a T junction.
