The surface of steel material having austenite texture is cleaned by removing ferrite stain material from the surface by jetting a liq. mixt. contg. 10-90 vol % of corrundum particles having a 0.4 mm average granular size and a compressed gas having a pressure of 4-10 atmos. on the surface of the steel material. Prior to the jetting and after the jetting, the steel surface is rinsed twice with a dilute nitric acid. The corundum particles repair fine cracks on the austenite surface with a filling process after the jetting.
