<p>Natural gas from a primary source (2) flows through a heat exchanger (37) into an expansion turbine (1). The turbine drives a generator (8) and the compressor (8a) of a heat pump. The output of the generator is used (59) to heat a thermal store (53). The store raises the temperature of hot water which is circulated (63, 62) to a district heating network (64). The heat pump (8a, 56) driven by the turbine also adds to the temperature of the water. The exhaust of the turbine (1) passes through a ring main (5a) to low pressure turbines (10a-10e) which drive compressors working further heat pumps contributing to the district heating.</p> |
