The speed recorder has a carriage which can move in a straight line perpendicular to the direction of movement of the recording web. The carriage is driven by the speed-measuring system according to the measured speed value. The carriage supports a recording stylus which is resiliently urged against the recording web. The carriage (12) is mounted on a guide rod (7) which gives the carriage a pendulum motion in addition to its linear motion. The recording stylus (14) is rigidly connected to the carriage. A spring acts on the carriage in the direction of pendulum motion.
