Crankcase venting valve for IC engine - has flexible membrane in double conical body with outlet to engine induction manifold

The valve is formed from two conical sections with their wider ends together. The flanges on these ends grip a flexible rubber membrane (2) between them. One conical chamber (4) has a connection (6) to the crankcase. The other (5) has a connection (7) to atmosphere and contains a pipe (8) coming from the induction manifold. The membrane has a central opening (9) with a flanged part (10) inside it which fits over the end of the pipe (8). When the crankcase pressure exceeds atmospheric the membrane deflects to uncover the opening to the induction manifold and thus vents the crankcase gases into the engine the manifold.
