1382011 Braking apparatus; transmitting- mechanism COMPAGNIE DES FREINS ET SIGNAUX WESTINGHOUSE 3 Jan 1973 [5 Jan 1972] 320/73 Heading F2E An apparatus for activating two brake mechanisms 9, 11 of a vehicle via respective flexible force transmission means 8, 10 includes an actuator having a pressure-responsive member 5 and a cylinder 1 forming a pressure chamber in which the member 5 works. The member 5 has a rod 7 which projects out of the chamber, and the cylinder 1 and the rod 7 are in tension between brake operating flexible members of the flexible force transmission means 8, 10, Fig. 4, not shown, or in compression between sleeves within which flexible members are slidable, the sleeves and respective flexible members comprising the flexible force transmission means (Figs. 2, 3, not shown). In the embodiments disclosed the actuator is of the spring applied, fluid pressure released type. The connections between the sleeves and rod and cylinder or between the sleeves and a fixed part relative to the vehicle chassis are adjustable to vary the effective lengths of the sleeves. The cylinder may be slidably mounted on the vehicle chassis (Figs. 4, 5, not shown). A sleeve may be provided at its end with a member which in one orientation abuts the fixed part and in another orientation passes through the fixed part to relieve compression on the sleeve (Figs. 6, 7, not shown). |
