1492227 Mooring lines OCEAN DRILLING & EXPLORATION CO 20 May 1975 [31 May 1974] 21586/75 Heading B7S A mooring system comprises a leading chain 18 connected to a cable 16, a wildcat 28 for paying out the chain, a drum 22 for paying out the cable, and drive means 40 for driving the wildcat drum together or independently. In operation, a mooring device, e.g. an anchor, is connected to the chain 18 which is payed out by the wildcat until the chain is fully payed out, whereupon the drum 22 continues the paying out with the wildcat acting as a fairlead sheave. A locker 26 is disposed below the drum 22, and a sheave 36 ensures that during winding in the cable pulls the chain until the chain is moved into the locker by its own weight. A fairlead 32 is disposed on the outside of the locker housing. The sheave 36 can be disposed within the locker 26 or below it. |
