<p>A displacement pump for pumping molasses in a sugar refinery consists of two rotors (4, 5) with multiple lobes mounted on parallel shafts. As the rotors rotate the molasses flow in through the inlet port (F1) and are carried around in the spaces between the lobes and delivered at the delivery port (F2). In order to prevent the break-up of sugar crystals suspended in the molasses, the contour of each lobe over the middle part of the rotor length is modified so that it departs from the true sinusoidal form.</p> |
