Engine, motor, or pump has diametrically opposed pairs of toroidal form pistons(20) slidable in toroidal form cylinders(18). The pitch lines of the cylinders and pistons lie in an imaginary spherical surface with the cylinders occupying a circumferential zone around a central first axis and the pistons a circumferential zone around a second axis intersecting the first obliquely at the centre of the spherical zone. The pistons are supported on separate carriers(40, 42) which are mounted on separate guide tracks that maintain the pistons in the appropriate zone and allow free movement of the carriers circumferentially of the second axis. The pistons are also pivotable about the diametric axis of the pair normal to the second axis.
