Spring telescopic guide for hand-held drill - has two inter-sliding sleeves attached to nose of drill to maintain bit normal to work

The spring-loaded telescopic guide fits on the cylindrical nose (5) of a hand-drill (15) and maintains the bit (4) normal to the workpiece during drilling. The guide comprises two sliding circular hollow section sleeves (1, 8) of which one attaches to the drill. The other sleeve (8) slides into the open outer end of the first sleeve against a contained coil spring (10). An annular plate (11) closes the outer end of the second sleeve (8) whilst allowing the bit (4) to pass. The sleeves are keyed by a longitudinal tongue (13) and groove and may have cooling windows (2, 9).
