The roof tile underside is covered with thermal insulation material overlapped by a weather resistant outer layer. The insulating material part (2) has a contoured surface with steps staggered by about a layer thickness (17) of the weather resistant outer layer (1). Pockets are formed between the insulation layer and the weather resistant cover. The weather resistant part (1) is made of a plastics material which can be welded. Alternatively, the weather resistant part is a bituminous roof felt.
