Oil pump and cooler for IC engine - which are built integrally on end wall of cylinder block

The oil pump (8) has a gear wheel (8a) driven directly by the engine crankshaft (5). It meshes with an internally toothed annular wheel (8b) to form a gear pump. The oil is discharged by the pump into a heat exchanger (9) built integrally with it and arranged immediately above it. The exchanger has a plate (16) with ribs (13) which press against the water cooled side (15) of the cylinder to form a labyrinth oil passage (12). Ribs (17) on the other side of the plate are closed by a cover (18) to form a further passage (19) for cooling water.
