The steering board of the windsurfer is pivoted through a slot in the board with fixed axles on the board located in slots (8) at right angles to the main slot. The board is held in the settings by friction pads on each side of the main slot so that when the craft runs aground the board is swung up without damage. The friction pads are formed by elastic strips flanking the slot under the board. The steering board has an extended end with a profiled head to form grips for the toes of the user.
