A method of evenly providing a coating of pulverulent material on an elongated longitudinally moving article of invariable cross-section consisting of synthetic resin material which can be softened by the application of heat or at least having an outer coating which can be softened in this way, said pulverulent material being heated to above the softening point of the synthetic resin material and being subsequently contacted with the article to be coated, thereby softening the outer surface of the synthetic resin material outer coating and penetrating said outer surface due to the kinetic energy of the powder grains of the pulverulent material, characterized in that the powder is heated in a holder and is set in motion by mechanical vibration of said holder, the elongated article being moved through said holder.
