<p>A flux for steels contains 2-20 wt.% Ti (or an alloy of Ti contng. >80 wt.% Ti) 0.5-20mm in size plus 30 wt.% Al2O3 either as bricks of Al powder, powdered bauxite, Al cinders or Al scrap and a binder which can be a synthetic resin an animal or vegetable glue made from starch and dextrine or a cement of sodium silicate and bentonite. The flux can be added either as briquettes, granules, compacted particles or pastilles. Ti acts as a slow deoxidising agent and TiO floats on the surface of the steel.</p> |
