A bullet and explosion-proof fabric component is produced by making separately a fabric from aromatic polyamide fibres (aramide gp.) and one from glass fibres, laying these up together into a laminate with the surface sheets of aramide, and pressing in a mould whilst injecting a thermosetting resin. The impact energy of a shot is dissipated outwards, the laminates can be shaped. The combination with glass fibres reduces cost and simplifies moulding to shape. Pref. the glass used is 3500-5000 denier, 3-5 warp and wefts, plain weave, and treated with 20% w/w polyester. Used for helmets, shields, vehicle parts and clothing.
|
