Overload discriminating fuse system - accepts long duration low intensity surcharges but rejects high intensity bursts

A fuse wire (1) is connected in series between a pair of conductors (2). The conductors are bridged by a heat sink (A). The thermal conductivity of the conductors is less than that of the fuse. Thus the fuse will not blow for low intensity charges of long duration but will blow for a short duration high intensity charge.
