Vacuum depositing metal on plastic film - by passing film through cloud of vaporised metal and over cushioned rollers

In a continuous evaporation/deposition plant, a layer is deposited on to the surface of a moving flexible carrier which is drawn through a vacuum of 10-3 - 10-6 torr; >=1 guide roller has a cushioning surface in contact with >=1 surface of the deposited layer. The process is suitable for depositing metal on to plastic films; the deposit has minimal defects.
