Offshore platform assembly - using guide ropes between base structure and deck structure during leg lowering operation

Offshore structures are assembled from components prefabricated on shore and floated on site. A structural base component is first lowered to the sea bed. The platform of the top component is linked by ropes to the legs of the base structure to prevent any lift of the platform during the leg lowering procedure. Any occurring excess buoyancy is compensated by the flooding of ballast tanks in the legs which are being lowered from the platform. This simplifies the assembly of two-part structures on offshore sites. Impact damage of the legs during the lowering process by the action of swell and waves is eliminated.
