<p>The furnace casing above the slag line includes numerous water-cooled housings with a rectangular- or square-cross section, and which are curved to match the periphery of the the casing. The casing rests on a well, which has an outside dia. (o.d.) larger than the o.d. of the casing; and the inner surface of the well has a refractory lining. Guides are pref. located on the top rim of the well and employed for aligning the casing on the well. The housings are less expensive than a conventional refractory lining in the casing, and reduce the frequency of repairs so productivity is increased. The housings are also thinner than a refractory lining so furnace capacity is also increased.</p> |
