The electrode for a heart pacemaker comprises a flexible, hollow cable that is secured to the heart tissue by means of spring hooks(13) which are retractable into a metal sleeve(12) by a spring(14). The hooks(13) are mounted on a plate(15) which is advanced by a mandrel to eject the hooks through an aperture at the end of the sleeve(12). The electrode is a metal sprial(11), several turns of which are connected to the sleeve(12), and the end of which is connected to the spring(14). The plate(15) also seals off the bore of the electrode; it may be tubular at its distal end.
