Element for coating or enveloping components(or their parts)which come into frequent contact with human skin consists of a carrier element having at least one outer layer which contains skin-compatible antiseptic and-or mycotic agents which sterilise the surface of the active layer. The active layer is pref. made of porous material and contains additionally a compatible bactericide. This layer can be covered with a porous protective layer which allows the disinfectant components to leak onto the surface. Components coated in this way are also claimed. These elements are used to sterilise door handles, latches, door fittings, etc to prevent spread of germs. On contact with the device, some of the active ingredient is transferred to the skin, so the skin itself is sterilised. When the sterilising effect of the coating is exhausted it is simply removed and replaced.
