<p>Antimalarial agent comprises a mixt. of (a) a guanylhydrazone of formula (I) and (b) a folic acid antagonist or a glucose-transport inhibitor. In the formula, R, R1 and R2 =H, 1-6C alkoxy or NO2. X = O or S. N.B. In the disclosure R,R1 and R2 can also be 1-6C alkyl. (I) is esp. 6-methoxythioflavoneguanylhydrazone (Ia) and the second component is 2,6-diamino-4-ethyl-5-(4-chlorophenyl)pyrimidine (II) or 2,6-dihydroxy-2-(beta-D-glucosido)-beta-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propiop- henone dihydrate (III). Synergistic enhancement of activity. The compsns, are effective against specieis of Plasmodium parasitic on humans (all 4 species) and other animals, including strains resistant to commercial antimalarials.</p> |
