Self-braking furniture castor - has groove in bent axle which straightens under load to relieve braking force

The self braking castor has a bent axle rigidly fitted into the castor forks and with the centre part of the axle weakened by a groove (71) cut across the axle. As load is applied to the castor the axle bends and in doing reduces the friction hold on the inside bore of the castor wheel. The brake action is simple and has no moving parts which can be clogged with dust and grease. The amount of brake force is controlled by the size of the cut groove.
