The chopper, which has a housing (11) and a disc wheel (1) rotating therein and possessing cutters (4) and throwshuttles (5), can be converted for different cutting tasks, the conversion being possible quickly and without difficulty, and the converted parts remaining constantly on the chopper in a simple way. For conversion, use is made of a plate (10) which is equipped, on one side, with a curved smooth working surface (10a) for the chopping of grass and, on the other side, with a curved working surface having counter-tools (10b) for comminuting maize plants. The plate (10) acts through an orifice (6b) in the retaining wall (6) of the chopper housing (11) and, for this purpose, is held in a bulge (8) of the retaining wall (6). The plate (10) is pulled out, turned over and pushed in again, so as to be inserted in one operative position or the other. <IMAGE>
