<p>Stringer for a slide fastener comprises an elongate body of U-shaped section with V-shaped transverse slots provided extending in from the bight portion of the section, interdigitated with V-shaped transverse slots extending in from the free arm portion of the section. Longitudinal grooves on the outer surface of the arms of the U-section, receive stitches when the stringer is sewn to a fabric. The free ends of the arm portions of the U-section are relatively close to one another to provide a longitudinally extending aperture to receive the fabric, while the legs are relatively widely spaced adjacent the closed ends of the bight portions to provide a recess to receive the bight portions of an associated stringer. Use of extruded stringer maintains proper shape and alignments of the stringer c.f. whent he U-shaped section was formed by bending a flat member. The stringer is easily formed, efficient in operation and has a long trouble free life.</p> |
