The fireplace consists of a base (1), side walls, back wall (3) and a fire hearth, which is made up of a grate (4) consisting of a plurality of tubular grate bars. The latter are connected at their one end to a common air suction tube and at their other end to a warm air outlet opening which opens into the living area. The air suction tube is part of the grate (4) and is attached to a cold air inlet (5) arranged in the lower area of the fireplace. The furnace chamber situated above the grate (4) is closed off in the direction of the back wall (3) by a furnace chamber casing (8) which stands on the base (1) and which, together with the back wall, forms a downward draught channel (9), which is likewise connected to the cold air inlet (5) and opens into the warm air outlet openings. The grate (4) consists of two grate halves which bear against one another obtusely in the centre of the fire hearth and together form part of the air suction tube. The latter is connected right through to the cold air inlet (5) via the furnace chamber casing (8), the downward draught channel (9) and the back wall (3). <IMAGE>
