A hinge for a pair of spectacles enables the user to adjust the degree of opening travel through which the arms (2) may swing. A slidable cursor member (4) is located on the outside of arm (2). This engages with a locking member (5) inside the arm by virtue of inwardly directed lugs (4a). The longitudinal disposition of the cursor (4) is adjusted to suit the user and locked by a grub screw (6). The swing angle of arm (2) is then delimited by the abutment of the cursor's forward extremity on the spectacle main frame (16).
