The winding drum (1) is for use with extra long roller blinds or back drop canvasses for theatres, and is of a tubular construction supported by a beam (2) with a precalculated longitudinal camber. The beam deflects to the horizontal under the weight of the blind, to align the axis of the drum for true rotation. The beam is of a greater length than the drum and projects from each end. The drum is mounted on the beam by systems of planetary rollers at longitudinal intervals. The rollers may be supported by brackets from each corner of a rectangular section beam and may contact rings fitted to the bore of the drum.
