Fe pellets are produced from a mixt. of 45:55 blast furnace dust produced by steel making furnaces by (a) adding to the mixt. coke particles in such an amt. that the ratio of free C atoms to O atoms, which are bounded to Fe, Zn, and Pb, is 0.75-1.25, (b) adding 0.5-7 wt % (0.8-3%) bentonite, (c) pelletising the mixt. to which water has been added so that the pellets contain 9.5-15.6% (9.5-13.0%) water, (d) drying the green pellets at a temp. at which C is not combusted, giving pellets with a porosity of 27.5-40.0%, and (e) reducing the pellets in a rotary kiln. The pellets are suitable as charge or burden in a blast furnace. method prevents pulverisation of the pellets.
|
