Antiinflammatory 4-cyclo:hexyl-naphthalene-1-acetic acid - with reduced ulcerogenic activity

4-Cyclohexylnaphthalene-1-acetic acid of formula (I) is new. (I) is in the form of a light ochre powder of m.pt. 161-163 degrees c. (I) is prepd. by chloromethylation of 1-cyclohexylnaphthalene (II), treatment of the prod. with e.g., NaCN or KCN, then conversion of the nitrile to the acid by known methods, e.g. with KOH then HCl. (I) is partic. useful for treating inflammatory syndromes. Ulcerogenic activity is much less than that of phenylbutazone. Does are e.g. 250 mg.-2g./day p.o. in usual forms.
