A braking device is designed to be attached to a ski. It consists of at least one brake element with a movable mounting between an inactive skiing position and an active braking position. The brake system includes a pretensioned installation which automatically brings any of the brake elements into the braking position whenever the ski boot is released from the ski and vice versa. The actuating element has at least one pedal of long extending cross section which has a movable bearing on the actuating element. The pedal has at least one movable element which slightly projects from the upper side of the pedal (18).
