The appts. has a chamber in which is located a rotary perforate drum over which the web is trained. The chamber arcuately encloses the drum and is provided with a treatment liq. inlet duct extending along the drum at the entry of the web. Exit of web is provided with a liq. discharge. Position of liq. inlets and outlets can be reversed. Pref. the chamber is in the form of a semi-circular trough which is closed at the ends and the inlet duct is totally enclosed except for an axial slot which forms an overflow weir. Diametrally opposite the weir is provided a further weir which is located at a lower level and overflows into a discharge duct communicating with a sump from which the liq. is pumped via distribution ducts to the inlet duct. Expensive chemical agents are used sparingly.
