N-(alpha,alpha,alpha-tribluoro-m-tolyl)anthranilic acid derivs. of formula (I) are new. In (I) A is gp. of formula (II) and R is H or another gp. A. (I) are antiphlogistics with a higher therapeutic index than previous cpds.; (I) are therefore safer to use. (I) can be administered locally, parenterally or (pref.) orally. Suitable oral daily doses are 50-500 (pref. 50-300)mg. (I) can be obtd. by reacting an alkali salt of N-(alpha,alpha,alpha-trifluoror-m-tolyl)anthranilic acid with 2-(2-benzyloxyethoxy)ethyl chloride to give (I; R=H) or with alpha,alpha-bis 2-(2-chloroethoxy)ethoxy toluene to give (I; R=Gp. A).
