Vehicle bumpers have a profiled section metal carrier for attachment to the vehicle, on the side removed from the vehicle the carrier has a thick resilient covering of >=1 line of closed-cell foam material e.g. polyethylene in the form of round rods which fit into grooves in the surface of the carrier. Low cost prod. is obtd. which absorbs light impacts yet provides considerable protection against heavy impact, and is cheaply repaired.
