<p>The mechanism comprises a flywheel (4) on a shaft, with a cord (2) wound around the latter. One end is held taut and resiliently anchored, typically by a spring, (7), while the other is attached to a component, such as the cover of a cassette tape recorder, which tends to accelerate on opening. The acceleration can be generated by a spring (5) or gravity. The design affords a simple and reliable means of slowing down the opening movement of a cover etc. and thus reduces the risk of damage resulting from repeated opening.</p> |
