1372152 Coated glass bodies TSUKIHOSHI KASEI KK 11 Aug 1972 [13 Aug 1971 11 Dec 1971] 37490/72 Heading B2E A glass body, such as a bottle, light tube, bulb, a plate or vase, is coated on its surface with a first elastic polymer film which adheres to the body or a primer thereon, and a second film covering the first film, thereby preventing glass fragments scattering when the glass body breaks. The outer layer has a tensile strength greater than 200 kg/cm<SP>2</SP>. Preferably the outer film has a different polarity from that of the inner film to reduce bonding therebetween, and the inner film may incorporate an antibonding agent such as silicone oil or emulsion or a surfactant. The films may be transparent. Optionally, a primer is applied to the glass body from solution by dipping, and may comprise carboxylated S.B.R. latex, vinyl chloride/ carboxylated or hydroxylated vinyl acetate copolymer, acrylic resins or epoxy resin modified p.v.c. The inner layer may be optionally vulcanised natural rubber solution or latex; synthetic rubber (e.g. S.B.R. block copolymer, polychloroprene, or A.B.R., solution or latex; plastisol, organosol or powder of polyvinyl chloride; or vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer solution. The inner layer may be applied by dipping, fluidised bed, or spraying. The outer layer may be an epoxy resin, onecomponent moisture-sensitive polyurethane, polyurethane rubber and hardening agent, polycarbonate, polyester, polystyrene, or ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, applied from solution by spraying or dipping. |
