The transfer unit moves parts on to a laying up or storage surcace. The number of parts (1') transferred from a parts row (1) transverse to the conveyor movement (A) on to the storage surface (2) from a positioning conveyor (3) through an intermediate conveyor (4) is controlled by one or more counting and/or calculating devices (15). These calculators can stop the positioning conveyor after the transfer of a predetermined number of parts on to the intermediate conveyor.
