Use, as insecticide, of a synthetic pyrethroid of formula: <IMAGE> in the form of an optical isomer which is practically pure with respect to the cyclopropane nucleus having the [R] configuration at C1 of the cyclopropane nucleus, in which formula R<2> and R<3>, which are identical or different, each represent a fluorine, chlorine or bromine atom and R represents a 3-phenoxybenzyl or alpha -cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl radical or a) when at least one of R<2> and R<3> represents fluorine, or b) when R<2> and R<3> each represent chlorine and when the cyclopropane nucleus has the [IR, cis] configuration, R may also represent a 5-benzyl-3-furylmethyl radical. These isomers exhibit an insecticidal toxicity and/or a particularly potent power to cause dizziness, especially against houseflies and cress coleoptera.
