The inlet manifold contains a bladed rotor unning in ball or needle roller bearings. The rotor is rotated turned by the action of inducted air to act as a non return valve during valve overlap periods. The rotor bearer (2) can be fixed between the inlet manifold (9) and engine block (12) or held inside the manifold. The rotor blades overlap each other. The blade angle is determined by the required rotor speed. An odd number of blades is used and the blades must be balanced.
