An inspection manipulator is intended for the volumetric internal testing of weld seams in ducts and at the edges of ducts, including the adjacent thermally influenced zones of a pressure vessel. The inspection manipulator is mounted at the end of an outrigger arm of a mast manipulator, where the mast can be raised and lowered and the arm can be slewed, extended and rotated about its own axis. The inspection head is itself mounted on a drag lever; this drag lever is mounted as follows relative to the outrigger of the mast manipulator. The outer, free end of the outrigger has a radial arm, with a traveller movable along the arm carrying a further arm parallel to the outrigger axis and continuing in the same direction; the outermost end of this arm carries a radial inward arm, i.e. an arm projecting back towards the outrigger; this last mentioned arm carries the drag level and inspection head. Thus the whole assembly, starting from the end of the outrigger of the mast manipulator, forms approximately three sides of a square providing access to the duct from the mast manipulator along a path which does not follow the axis of the duct. Used partic. for the ultrasonic in-service inspection of reactor pressure vessels. More specifically, for a boiling water nuclear reactor, in which direct axial access to the duct from the inside of the pressure vessel is obstructed by a feed water distributor. The arrangement enables all parts of the inner face of the duct and its junction with the pressure vessel, also the adjacent zone of the pressure vessel, to be reached by the inspection head without removal of the feed water distributor.
|
