The unit is used for fighting forest fires from an aircraft, which is fitted with a number of containers (7) filled with an extinguishing agent. The containers are loaded onto roller-fitted bases and fixed in position by straps (10). Each container is connected to the compressed air system existing on board of the aircraft. In addition the containers are connected to a water piping system consisting of pipes (25) starting at the base of each container and joined together in manifold (19), the other end of which continues in common powder supply pipe (14) connected to mixing jet (13). The mixing jet has water connection (16) terminating in water scooping device (11). By letting the aircraft glide over a water surface, water is scooped and transported through pipe (16) into the mixing jet, at the same time compressed air delivers powder into pipe (14). The mixture is stored in tanks (4, 5) from where it is released through trap doors onto the flames.
