Restoring water main pipe joints - by cutting out a section, cleaning the joint internally and applying layer of fibre filled epoxy! resin

Cast iron or steel water main supply pipe joints are repaired by cutting out a pipe section adjacent the pipe joint, cleaning the pipe joint with the aid of tools inserted into the pipe covering the cleaned pipe joint with a layer of fibre reinforced synthetic resin and replacing of the cut out pipe section. The joint cleaning is pref. effected by first manually removing lime stone with chisels and other sealing agents and then sand blasting the pipe joint region using an axially movable sand blaster which is supported by a spider carriage. Sand blaster is provided with sand exhausting plant. Cleaned pipe joint is provided with the fibre reinforced resin layer by first applying an undercoat of an epoxy resin, which is allowed to set before a further coat is applied with a spatula. Fibre matting is then applied to the coat which following settling is coated with a further layer of epoxy resin.
