(@ A write/protect tab assembly including a substantially planar jacket base (18) and a write/protect tab (22) slidably mounted in a tab pocket (24) formed in the jacket base (18), such that the tab (22) is encaptured by the jacket base (18). The tab (22) is alternatively encaptured by: a latch (34) formed at the tab pocket (24) for receiving the tab (22); shelf-like protections (40) formed on the tab pocket (24) for receiving corresponding elongated recesses (38) formed on the sides of the tab (22); a cap (42) attached to the tab (22) with the tab pocket (24) being disposed between the tab (22) and the cap (42); or guides (56) formed adjacent the tab pocket (24) for receiving in sliding relation the sides of the tab. The present invention also includes a method of encapturing the tabs (22) in the jacket base (18) before the cover (16) is positioned on the jacket base (18).
