<p>In tempering heated glass sheets by passing them between streams of cooling gas directed at the opposite faces of the sheets, the streams in the first zone are directed at a relatively large oblique angle to the plane normal to the major surfaces of the sheets, then at relatively small angle in a second zone, and finally the streams are directed normal to the sheet major surfaces in the third zone. The process produces tempered glass with high stress values, uniform cooling and good optical properties with min. development of lines.</p> |
