Communal central heating system - uses steam as distributing medium and measures condensate to meter heat consumption

A communal heating system utilising any fuel delivers steam through mains to individual consumer stations. At each station the steam passes through heat exchangers which heat water locally for the consumer. One exchanger provides domestic hot water. The others provide water for space heating radiators. One of them provides sufficient heat for base level background heating while the other provides the balance for full heating. The condensate from the domestic water and main heating exchangers flows through a volumetric flow meter which enables the amount of heat used by the consumer to be readily measured.
