The process utilises the hydraulic transmission of an explosive charge to deform plane sheet-metal (2), and is for use in the fabrication of plane or dished rib-stiffened bases for cisterns. The sheet (2) is fastened to a matrix (1) which is then submerged in a water-filled firing pit (5). A vacuum (3) is created between the sheet (2) and the matrix (1) and finally a controlled explosion is initiated in the water above the matrix. The force of the explosion is transmitted to the water which deforms the sheet (2) onto the matrix (1). The assembly (1, 2) is then removed from the pit (5) and the sheet (1) is detached from the matrix. The finished piece may have an edge-stiffening formation which facilitates its connection to the barrel of a cistern.
|
