Appts. to open up bales of fibre material has strippers attached to needle tables or rollers. These range into the gaps between the rods supporting the bales. The strippers are sharpened at their free-ranging ends, and they are mounted to the needle tables or rollers near their deflection points round their movement rollers. In the operating direction, the strippers are located in succession on different sides of the rods supporting the fibre bales. The design ensures that the fibre bales are opened and the contents are extracted even in the regions where the rods support the bales.
