<p>Impruties, e.g. oil slicks, which float on the surface of water are removed by applying to the water surface an absorbent material such as cloth, fibre mat or felt. The absorbed impurities are removed by squeeze rollers and the web of absorbent material is reused. This effects a more thorough cleaning than mechanical skimming of the water surface. It does not have the undesirable side effects on marine biology which chemical detergents usually have.</p> |
